Israel is a special country where special people live. Even though they sometimes have different backgrounds and different religions, they need to coexist together in one country. Freedom of Religion is observed today in Israel.
Freedom of Religion
Israel is indeed a country wherein several religions coexist. This is not so rare. Most countries in the world have populations that observe different religions. What perhaps is more unique is the fact that in the Middle East, Israel allows the free observance of all religions.
There is no better place to be a Christian in the Middle East than the State of Israel.
The Jewish people understand well how valuable freedom of worship is. For centuries, Jewish people were persecuted mercilessly because of their religion. Today, things are different in most parts of the world.
But in most countries in the Middle East, a Jew will certainly not be welcome. He certainly will not be able to practice his religion freely. Christians in the Middle East have it even worse. Only in Israel do minorities have total freedom to worship as they see fit.
Benjamin Franklin on religion
“Here is my Creed,” Franklin wrote towards the end of his life. ”
I believe in one God, Creator of the Universe. That He governs it by His Providence. That he ought to be worshiped.”
“That the most acceptable Service we render to him, is doing Good to his other Children. That the Soul of Man is immortal, and will be treated with Justice in another Life respecting its Conduct in this.”
Dr. John Fea wrote in the Pennsylvania Heritage that according to Franklin, “It did not matter what one believed about God, as long as one’s religion contributed to a more benevolent society and made the world, one neighborhood at a time, a more enlightened and civilized place.”
The spirit of openness to other religions is displayed today in the State of Israel.
