The Israel Antiquities Authority recently created the Land of Israel and Archaeology Matriculation Program geared for high school students with the idea of training tomorrow’s archaeologists.
A group of students was recruited for a week of excavations and field research at an archaeological site in Yehud, near Tel Aviv.
On the last day of digging, one of the students was shocked to discover that she had unearthed a figurine approximately 3,800 years old!
Along with that fabulous discovery, thought to have been used as part of funeral rites, other items were discovered including, arrowheads, pottery, jugs and other artifacts.
This site is just one of thousands in Israel, attesting to the rich history that has taken place in this region for thousands of years.
