“70 years after the murder of 6 million Jews, Iran’s rulers promised to destroy my country, murder my people….and the response from this body (the UN)…. utter silence….deafening silence.”
The silent glare of the Prime Minister of Israel at the UN body serves as a very powerful message. The UN has consistently treated Israel as an unwanted child, wreaking havoc in the Middle East, surrounded by peace-loving Arab nations that have no evil intentions vis-a-vis Israel.
The reason why the silence of Netanyahu at the UN is such a fitting statement by Prime Minister Netanyahu as a method of reproof to the UN reps is because it conjures up the horrific and deafening silence of the world during the Holocaust.
Many mistakenly think that the world would never sit silently again when such atrocities occur. But, if that were the case, then how could so much of the world be turning a deaf ear while hundreds of thousands of Syrians have been killed in the past decade.
It would seem that the one essential aspect that truly bothers each and every one of the nations of the world are their own national interests.
Unfortunately, for almost every nation, this does not include making sure that mass killings do not occur in some remote corner of the world.
So, Prime Minister Netanyahu has every reason to assume that the deafening silence that is heard now when Israel is threatened with destruction will translate into a deafening silence when Israel undergoes a massive attack.
I think it was Golda Meir who said that Israel will not die so the world will speak well of it.
Benjamin Netanyahu and the State of Israel have internalized this message very well and will continue to do so. Israel will not be bullied into the corner. Israel will stand up for what is right and continue to promote justice.
