Yalili is a once a decade song that swept across the Jewish music scene a few years back. But, it’s not just the amazing rhythm of the song. It is the central message of unity among the Jewish people that resonates too.
First off, it is rather impossible to watch this once. The video completely takes place in one supermarket – Pomegranate. The Director, Larry Guterman is a real creative genius. He created the amazing video, Antz, an animated work of art with some of the best voices in Hollywood. Now, he applies his talents into one store and created an amazing video around one song.
Uniqueness and Unity
The Jewish people were scattered around the entire world 2,000 and 2,500+ years ago when they were dispersed from the Land of Israel. The Jewish people moved to Yemen. They moved to Iraq, and they ended up gradually moving towards Western Europe, and then Eastern Europe. Ultimately, the Jewish people became separated into two major groupings – Ashkenazic and Sephardic Jewry. The Ashkenazic Jews were largely located in Eastern and Western Europe. The Sephardic Jews were largely located in Arab countries in closer proximity to the Land of Israel.
The musical styles of the two major groupings are very different. One of the ideas of this song was to somehow fuse the two styles with dance, musical style, and a general upbeat message called Yalili.
