The Arabs who live in Judea, Samaria, and Israeli-Arabs are currently conducting ‘innovative’ terror attacks. Since the Second Intifada, the Israeli government has built the security barrier which has prevented virtually all suicide bombings and a lot of attacks from Judea and Samaria. Since the last war with Hamas in the summer, tensions have been gradually building up and we have seen in the last few weeks a significant increase in terrorist activity by the Muslim Arabs who currently inhabit the area.
This increase in tensions started with the brutal and unprovoked kidnapping and murder of three innocent teenage boys by Hamas. This led to an increase in rocket attacks from Gaza and, eventually, an Israeli military incursion into the Gaza Strip. The threat of terrorism by Gazans is so great that Egypt has started to close the border, and even forceably evicted approximately 1,100 of its own citizens from the area. While the terrorists who control Gaza are closely monitored and watched by Israel, those in Judea and Shomron, are not watched as closely. The region is split into separate areas – known as Areas A, B, and C. Area A is subject solely to Palestinian control, and includes hotspots such as Hebron, Nablus, Jenin, Bethlehem and Israeli citizens are generally not allowed here (in co-ordination with the army it is possible to visit holy sites such as the Cave of the Patriarchs and Jacob’s tomb). Area B is under Israeli military control and Palestinian civilian control and is entirely populated by Arabs, containing no Jewish communities. Area C is under full Israeli control and is where the major Israeli cities are, including Maale Adumim, and Ariel and smaller villages. So, the main hotspots (Area A) are watched by the Israeli military and intelligence but it takes a lot of effort to apprehend terrorist suspects while Areas B and C is not so hard.
The recent terrorist attacks in Israel have been carried out by Muslim Arabs driving cars from either Muslim populated parts of Jerusalem or from Area A, and the knife attacks were carried out by Muslims in these areas. Israelis need to do more to stop these attacks, and the international community needs to put more pressure on Mahmoud Abbas to stop Fatah officials calling for war, intifada and encouraging such attacks.
Whenever Israel launches missile strikes or does any kind of incursion into Muslim-Arab areas, the international community unites in condemning Israel, but they have been suspiciously silent on condemning Hamas and Fatah for the latest attacks. Two days ago, a 20 year old Israeli soldier and a 26 year old female civilian were killed in a brutal attack, and no-one made a sound. This includes the UN (unsurprisingly) and Israel’s ‘close’ ally President Obama. Obama needs Israel now more than ever in fighting Islamic terrorists and yet he seems hell-bent on destroying the relationship between the US and Israeli governments.
The world is applying a double standard to Israel. The UN needs to find a way to reduce the power of Arab and Muslim states and be able to condemn terror attacks against Israel. The powerful countries in the international community need to stand up and defend Israel instead of taking part in the number one past-time of Israel bashing and antisemitism. Fortunately for Israel, the Republicans control the Capitol and it may not mean much in some ways it also means there is a lot of support for Israel in the US legislature. Also, Israel, and Bibi, is more and more ignoring what the US and the international community says and prepared to go against international opinion to protect the citizens, soldiers, and visitors to Israel no matter where they are from or what they believe.
